DAMAGE REPORT – for Louis

Repetitive motion,
mechanisms.
Not being able to
hold back.
The mind and heart,
battling each other.
It seems as if history
was always there.
Just waiting for
the right moment.
And we all do our bit,
we all play our part.
Staged scenes -
performed naturally.
This human pit of
anxiety, surrender,
endurance and hate.
Its tragedy exposed.
The best always get it
the worst,
because they never ever
shut up.
Out on a limb
yeah, why not? they’re planning on making a film about the murderer of Louis Sévèke, an old fellow activist who got shot in the back on november 15th 2005, and who’s killer got sentenced to life. yes, you read it correctly: a film about the murderer, not Louis. more people smell business in this story, besides dutch celeb author A.F.Th., who already announced writing a novel about ‘the case’, due 2010 or 2011. only referring to it as ‘a case’ made me wanna puke all over him. i wrote an open letter to this schmuck last year, without any response. several newspapers and weeklies denied printing it. the only ‘alternative press’ who published it was a dutch anarchist website, and whose commenters didn’t really get the point. but hey, what else is new?
now, if there’s one man who didn’t understand anything it’s Louis’ assassin; a former activist and squatter himself who committed several bombings and bank robberies, and killed Louis for getting even with the movement which distrusted and eventually expelled him. the ‘anarchist’, as he calls himself, couldn’t have done the State a greater favor; Louis was a prominent oldtimer within the scene and one of a few thorough investigators into the secret service and its dirty laundry.
you know how it works; there’s media to play and a public to prepare before launching the product. the more Louis’ name gets dropped in connection with the book or film, the more the public will associate him with ‘the product’ and not with the actual human being he was and what he stood for. that’s right: the victim - in this case Louis -, gets hijacked and becomes a ‘subject’ to use for commercial and – never forget to mention this in your press releases boys! – for artistic reasons! does that sound cynical to you? you betcha!
no, these are not sincere people at all, although they like to present themselves as such. for them it’s just another project within their oeuvre, for personal fame and artistic glory. if they had any balls they would go out there and ‘create’ and literally ‘live’ their own artistry, instead of sitting behind their safe desks for a suitable topic to come along and to capitalize on. the film will cost about 2 million euros – figure what we could have done with that amount back then Louis!
have you ever seen or read a story about native tribes just minding their own business when all of a sudden ‘civilized’ whites come along wanting to take their picture? they naturally object as they fear their soul will be captured on film, thus losing their independence, power and will. i’m speaking metaphorically here, get it? unscrupulous soulkillers, that’s what they are: modern day media whores. soulkillers don’t care about their subject unless it can serve their day-to-day egotestical need. even if it means that authenticity gets destroyed in the end.
here’s to Louis and what he stood for, and may all soulkillers who distort and manipulate reality for the sake of selling their rotten selves forever burn in hell!
and no, don’t worry. i’m not out to revive old times and i’m not looking back in anger either. i don’t have contacts from back then nor do i intend to pick them up again. just the way how all of this is handled makes me sick inside. in fact, i can say regarding the ‘alternative scene and their press’, that in the last few years – since promoting Indigo Blue and Red Impact – in general i met the same lack of interest and stupidity as in the corporate media. the level of indecency is quite the same. or is that just me and my age?
