As Goddess of the sea she is called Yemayá Olokun, only one of her seven appearances. She is raising her sisters children, because Ochún is to busy with her love affairs. Nevertheless Ochún is not regarded as a bad mother. Yemayá is regarded as mother of all life, because all life originates from the sea. She can be very harsh and rule with a firm hand. At the same time she can be very just, tender and full of joy. Her always white and blue dress symbolizes the sea with its waves.
